Only in Movies?

Dear Odd Fellow Next to Me in the Bar:

I never thought I’d ever see the “second phone for the mistresses” bit in real life. You are apparently good at pulling that off despite being a loud and boorish middle-age douchebag. I guess the uniform helps. I enjoy the randomness of single-serving bar friends, but you are by far the creepiest guy I have ever met at a bar. I still feel violated and dirty, and I didn’t even dare talk to you…

Yuck.

Nothing Much…

Tonight I felt both stir crazy and unable to think of anything to do. So I bought a cheap cup of coffee and cruised around for a while. I feel like I’m in the midst of a really long stretch of being in limbo and uncertainty.

Right now I’m listening to Suburbs by Arcade Fire. I think that’s appropriate for my feelings right now.

Four Thoughts

Today was an uneventful day, as most days go. Still, it has been odd in a way, because I think I can divide the day into four thoughts.

– This morning, as I was thinking about if I should bother with NaNoWriMo this year: “Hmm, I think my biggest problem is that I don’t know how to come up with a plot that can be stretched out to an appreciable length. What do I do to fix that?”

– This afternoon, as I try to plead for reasonable discussion: “Yes, but the Holocaust and the gulags weren’t a result of Hitler and Stalin advocating for unemployment benefits either.”

– This evening, as I get drawn into a magazine I only saw as the end result of venturing out on a whim: “I think that this is another sign that I have to work on getting a better job.”

– Just moments ago, after watching Blink from the series Doctor Who, “Damn, that was a great episode. Wow.”

Voting

I was the 40th person to vote at my location at around midday. I suspect the number should have been higher. Oh well. I really didn’t think too much about voting when I went to go do it, but I feel better after I did. Civic duty is awesome, I guess. Yet, at the same time I also feel apathetic about it. I’m not sure what that’s about…

New Journal

Despite not keeping up on my blogging at this website in about a year, I have been keeping up on my handwritten journal. I just finished my latest notebook, which was a Quo Vadis Habana. Very nice paper. I just started using a Rhodia Webnotebook, which is also very nice. Unlike the Habana’s bright white paper, the Rhodia has cream colored sheets not unlike a Moleskine. Both the Habana and the Webbie are vastly superior to the Moleskine though. I’m not sure if I like the Quo Vadis or the Rhodia better; I think some more research is necessary.
