Between Politics and Studies

Today I was studying for the Regulation section of my CPA exam, and was reading over several governmental acts that regulate business in this country. Of course, the government’s regulations on how a business must conduct itself is a rather testy point of politics these days. Though I have my political opinions, I find talking about such things a one-way street to nowhere. I think that political discourse now, with the media’s omnipresence and the politico way of always campaigning has caused the discourse to be less discussion and more ‘I’m right, and you want the world to burn.’

I always cringed in my accounting classes when the discussion veered toward the political motivation for regulations. I had one teacher who always seemed to be teaching the classes were these sorts of things would come up, but I always thought that she kept her discussions rather neutral. However, somebody in the class would always seem to voice their political opinion on the subject, and I would always cringe. Sometimes the class would then get really waylaid. It’s nice that you have an opinion, but I think that class is not the forum for such things. What you think about it is way less important than what it is when we’re just need to know the particulars of the subject.

Sigh. I kind of hate politics sometimes…
